Bu hastal\u0131k grubu beyinde veya omurilikte bizim hareketlerimizden sorumlu motor sinir h\u00fccrelerinin y\u0131k\u0131m\u0131yla meydana gelmektedir. Bu y\u0131k\u0131m sonucunda kaslar g\u00fc\u00e7s\u00fcz olmakta beraber incelmeye ve erimeye ba\u015flarlar. Bu zay\u0131flama genelde ellerde ve bacaklarda, dil ve yutak b\u00f6l\u00fcm\u00fcnde ba\u015flayarak hastada ince el i\u015fleri yapmakta zorluk (anahtar \u00e7evirme, alet kullanma) ve de yutma\/konu\u015fma problemleri olarak sonu\u00e7lanmaktad\u0131r ve ilerlemesi sonucunda solunum yetmezli\u011fine yol a\u00e7abilmektedir. Ayr\u0131ca hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n bir di\u011fer belirtisi v\u00fccutta ve dilde yayg\u0131n olarak g\u00f6r\u00fcnen seyirmelerdir. Hastalar\u0131n bir \u00e7o\u011fu hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131 farketmeden v\u00fccuttaki seyirmeleri farketmekte ve bu sebeple hekime ba\u015fvurmaktad\u0131r. Hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n \u00f6nemli \u00f6zelliklerinden biri zihinsel fonksiyonlar, duyu sistemi ve\u00a0haf\u0131zan\u0131n hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n hi\u00e7bir d\u00f6neminde bozulmamas\u0131d\u0131r. ALS genellikle eri\u015fkin ya\u015flarda ve de erkeklerde biraz fazla g\u00f6r\u00fclmekte olup olduk\u00e7a nadir bir hastal\u0131kt\u0131r ve her y\u0131l 100.000\u2019de 1-2 yeni hasta g\u00f6r\u00fclmektedir. ALS hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n %10\u2019u genetiktir fakat kalan %90\u2019\u0131n kesin bir nedeni \u015fu anda bilinmemektedir. Hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131n te\u015fhisi n\u00f6roloji uzman\u0131n\u0131n detayl\u0131 bir muayenesi sonras\u0131 istenen tetkik sonu\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131n de\u011ferlendirilmesi ile konuyor. ALS tan\u0131s\u0131ndaki tetkiklerden en \u00f6nemlisi EMG (Elektromiyografi)\u2019dir. EMG v\u00fccuttaki sinir ve kas rahats\u0131zl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131n tespitinde kullan\u0131lan bir tetkik arac\u0131d\u0131r. ALS i\u00e7in hen\u00fcz bir tedavi bulunamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r fakat modern t\u0131bb\u0131n geli\u015fmesiyle bu hastalar hayat kalitesini art\u0131rmaya y\u00f6nelik m\u00fcdaheleler ve \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar devam etmektedir.
